Honeymoon phase

Christmas celebrations are over and ever since a few weeks, we have observed a new phenomenon: it takes less and less insulin for my son to maintain a lower blood sugar level.
Is it possible that he is “getting better”? Unfortunately not, it is what is called the “honeymoon phase”, a period over a few months where his body still produces insulin.
We now have to constantly readjust his treatment with the medical team to not throw him in hypoglycemia and avoid hyperglycemia… Diabetes type 1 is a really frustrating condition and my son’s many questions are absolutely justified. But he nonetheless takes the whole situation incredibly well, only mentioning from time to time:
“It would be nice to go back in time, you know, before my white blood cells attacked my pancreas!”
As a parent, being powerless is really the hardest part of it.
